Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What amount of supermarket gift cards am I required to purchase?
A: Effective August 2012, there are no minimum requirements nor are there limits on the amount you can earn.
Q: How does the program compare to prior years?
A: Prior to August 2012, Seniors and Single members were asked to purchase $1,200 per year. All other members, $2,400 per year ($100 per month or $200 per month of A&P, Acme, ShopRite, or Stop N Shop). The new program is a combined fundraiser and dues reduction program. To visually see the difference, refer to the PowerPoint slides that were presented at the General Membership Meeting in June 2012.
Q: How are credits calculated?
A: All gift card purchases earn you a 2% credit towards your dues. There are no limits. The more you purchase, the lower your dues will be.
Q: Will credit cards/on line payments be accepted?
A: Yes. However, no credit will accrue towards dues reduction. The synagogue will earn whatever percentage is left after the processing fee. Note: The credit-card machine is generally not available on Sunday mornings.
Q: Are there any additional supermarkets that participate in this program?
A: Acme gift cards are accepted at Albertsons (mostly in Florida). Unfortunately, Wegmans does not offer a similar program for non-profits. A&P also honors all Pathmark cards.
Q: What if I don’t wish to purchase any gift cards
A: By not purchasing, you won’t benefit with a dues credit and CBT will miss out on additional fundraising.
Q: How will I know where I stand with purchases and how will the billing work?
A: Any amount earned will appear as a credit on your bill.
Q: How much extra revenue does B’nai Tikvah earn?
A: We expect to generate an extra $4,000-$5,000 per year.
Q: Can I receive credit for new sales to non-members that I generate?
A: Yes, you may purchase gift cards for anyone you choose and non-members may purchase them in your name.
